What is Thanx?

Thanx helps merchants identify, reward, and retain their best customers. Launched in 2012, Thanx evolves the traditional customer loyalty program which is plagued with high integration costs for business owners and massive customer fatigue (think punchcards and plastic loyalty cards). Thanx makes the experience effortless for merchants and consumers alike. For consumers, earning rewards at their favorite merchants is as easy as paying as usual – gone are the hassles of check-ins, loyalty cards, or any added steps at checkout. Through Thanx, merchants can easily build personal relationships with their best customers – no point-of-sale integration or additional hardware required – taking advantage of automated retention marketing campaigns powered by Thanx. On average, Thanx merchants generate 30% increases in revenue from existing customers and experience drastically improved customer satisfaction. Backed by A-list venture firms Sequoia Capital and SoftTech VC, Thanx powers retention marketing for multi-location merchants across the United States. Over $15B in loyalty rewards were given out last year. Thanx brings a new, measurable and data-driven approach to a massive market that is waiting to be revolutionized.

Who are we?

Passionate. Loyal. Innovative. Thanx employees literally say "Thanx" to each other in team meetings every week (may sound corny, but dynamite way to build trust and confidence). Our CEO came from Bain (with a stop at Stanford GSB), where he worked closely with national technology and retail companies to design effective customer retention programs. Our product and design leads each boast 10+ years of experience across leading tech companies from CNET to Cloudera and Fitbit. Our engineers are full-stack experts who love building top-notch architecture that shows off actionable data. Our investors are the brightest in Silicon Valley.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

We are looking for founding members of our Sales Development team who will work closely with our Head of Sales and CEO to identify high-potential merchants for Thanx. You will use our established lead sourcing tools along with your sheer creativity, determination and persistence to find the next great Thanx merchants and get them excited about our product. You will then collaborate with our Account Executives to "win" the deal. As a new function here at Thanx, your role will be defined by you in many ways – you will help us shape the future of this function in the company and receive extensive training and support to ensure your success.

These are some things we will expect of you:

  • Hard-work and determination: Our product is innovative, unique, and highly-valued by every potential customer we talk to. But we are just starting to grow and get the word out. That’s your job. You will be expected to source high-potential leads, convert in-bound opportunities and connect with customers large and small over the phone and via email.
  • Work collaboratively with Account Executives and directly with the CEO and Head of Sales to build your process and pipeline – learn from weekly training sessions but also bring your own creative ideas to help evolve the role of Sales Development at Thanx.
  • There is meaningful opportunity to grow in this role. Strong performance on the job could earn "closing" opportunities within the Thanx sales organization or other roles at Thanx. The options are limitless for a strong performer.

Your experience likely includes:

  • 3 months to 3 years experience in sales development, sales, marketing or related field. Proficient in Salesforce.com a big plus.
  • An understanding of startup-level hard work and willingness to break through walls.
  • You have worked in a team or competitive environment, had formal sales training,  and/or learned informally from a great mentor (we will ask her/him). Startup sales is even more intense than at a normal job — but way more rewarding as you are creating a market. That should be exciting to you, not intimidating.
  • You are very comfortable with technology. The product is not overly complex but we have found it is very helpful to be able to explain how it works when asked – and we use a lot of tech for demos throughout the sales process.
  • Experience selling mobile or marketing solutions in the local space (e.g. Yelp, Groupon) a big plus.

Opportunity and Benefits

Thanx is a young company and we expect every early employee to be a massive contributor, have a whole lot of fun, create things that have never existed before and be a friend to their co-workers. Whether you want to be a brilliant contributor or grow into the next level of leadership, we truly believe Thanx is the place where you can make that happen. In addition, we offer:

  • Top-notch salary based on ability to contribute (not what's on your resume) and above-market equity opportunities
  • Full healthcare benefits (including dental and vision) and thousands of dollars in technology allowance
  • Flexible hours, open vacation policy and routine performance reviews
  • Weekly team dinners and lunches and even more frequent happy hours
  • A modern and bright office replete with shuffleboard and kegerator

We foster a collaborative, constantly evolving working environment and a place where everyone is excited to come to work tomorrow. Your impact here can be as big as you want it to be.
